Sunrise Burlington and the National Solidarity Movement Endorse Lt. Governor David Zuckerman
BURLINGTON: Today, the largest Sunrise chapter announced that, with a unanimous vote of its members, they have endorsed Lt. Governor David Zuckerman in his bid for Governor of Vermont.
Sunrise Burlington is the Burlington chapter of a national youth-based climate action movement. The chapter is dedicated to “building a movement of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, ending the corrupting influence of fossil fuel companies."
In a social media post announcing its endorsement, Sunrise Burlington said, “Our hub was unanimous in the decision to endorse David Zuckerman’s campaign for Governor. Zuckerman is willing to break the political status quo to fight for our climate and the people of Vermont.”
In response to the Sunrise endorsement, Lt. Governor David Zuckerman said, “Sunrise Burlington’s endorsement has particular significance to me because I first became involved as a college student at UVM, organizing the 1990 celebration of Earth Day and working to increase recycling and reduce single-use cups at the dining halls. My actions as a student, however, pale in comparison to the strong national movement around climate action created by today’s youth. I have been incredibly impressed by Sunrise’s impact on the national and state-wide conversations around the climate crisis and climate justice and I am humbled to receive Sunrise Burlington’s endorsement. I look forward to working with climate and youth activists across the state as Governor of Vermont.”
Sunrise Burlington’s endorsement includes a statement to aid the campaign with substantial volunteer efforts.
The Zuckerman campaign has been continually gaining momentum and also announced a second endorsement from the National Solidarity Movement.
Sunrise Burlington and The National Solidarity Movement’s endorsements build on a rapidly growing list of support for Lt. Governor Zuckerman. Previous endorsements include: Senator Bernie Sanders, VPIRG Votes, VSEA, Our Revolution, Rights & Democracy, People for the American Way, the Vermont Sierra Club, Moms Demand Action, People’s Action, the Vermont A.F.L C.I.O, CWA Local 1400, AFSCME Council 93, the Champlain Valley DSA, Former U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich, Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield, Bill McKibben, and over 150 Vermont legislators, former legislators, farmers, and teachers.
