VERMONT -- Today the Working Families Party announced its endorsement of Lieutenant Governor David Zuckerman for Governor of Vermont. Zuckerman is a longtime member of the Vermont Progressive Party with over two decades of progressive leadership in the Vermont House and Senate. He’s running his campaign on the same progressive values held by the WFP, a national independent party that recruits, trains and elects grassroots progressives to office.
"This is what progressive leadership looks like," said Maurice Mitchell, national director of the Working Families Party. "Lieutenant Governor Zuckerman has been a longtime leader in the fight for a Vermont that works for the many, not the few. His political courage and bold vision for the future of Vermont’s working families is unmatched in this race, and the WFP is proud to support him all the way to Election Day.”
In his time as a State Senator and State Representative, Zuckerman has helped raise wages, increase pay equity, expand collective bargaining, reform outdated drug laws, and boost Vermont’s economy. He was a leader in the fight for a progressive wealth tax, marriage equality and universal healthcare, and has been an outspoken advocate for green energy and marijuana reform.
"I am proud and honored to be endorsed by the Working Families Party,” said Lt. Gov. Zuckerman. I believe in the WFP’s mission to bring people together across differences to create a nation that works for everyone, not just the few. Now, more than ever, we must work for progressive policies that make sure that no Vermonter - or American - is left behind."
The endorsement come at the height of a victory streak for the grassroots group, which this year helped elect progressive champions Jamaal Bowman and Mondaire Jones to Congress in New York, ousted five conservative Democratic state senators in New Mexico, helped DC Council Member-elect Jannese Lewis George beat back scaremongering attacks about defunding the police department, helped three progressive district attorneys in Colorado triumph in their primaries and won a slew of elections throughout Pennsylvania.
The WFP will be mobilizing its members in the state and lending the support of its national texting team to help elect Zuckerman to Governor.
