Lt. Governor David Zuckerman Endorsed by Representative Peter Welch, Attorney General TJ Donovan, and Treasurer Beth Pearce
BURLINGTON: Today, a little over a week following Lt. Governor Zuckerman’s decisive victory in the Democratic Primary, the Zuckerman campaign’s momentum continues to build with prominent endorsements from Representative Peter Welch, Attorney General TJ Donovan, and Treasurer Beth Pearce.
Representative Welch said:
“As a Lieutenant Governor, farmer, and legislator, David has spent his career working to ensure a bright and just future for Vermont. David believes in the value of every Vermonter and knows that each of us deserves the dignity of a good-paying job, clean water, and food to nourish our families, and high-quality health care is a human right. These are the values he will bring to the Governor's office.”
Attorney General Donovan said:
“I endorse David Zuckerman for Governor of the great state of Vermont.
At the national level, this is the most consequential election in our nation’s history. And here in Vermont, it is a consequential election too! Because this election is about the future of our state - the future of our parents, worried about how they are going to work and educate their children; the future of our teachers who are worried about their own health and how they will be able to educate our next generation of Vermonters; the future of our small business owners who are worried about hanging on until we beat this virus; and the future of all those who have called out for justice and that Black Lives Matter. David Zuckerman cares about that future. David Zuckerman has your back.
This election matters in the state of Vermont. David Zuckerman will be our next governor because he has a plan for Vermont’s future.“
Treasurer Beth Pearce said:
“Democrats must unite not just in Vermont but nationally. This is the most important election in our lifetimes. The future of the next generation depends on it. David will bring that needed change to Vermont.”
These elected officials join Senator Bernie Sanders who endorsed Lt. Governor Zuckerman last month, saying:
“David has been fighting for all Vermonters for over 25 years. He has worked to raise the minimum wage, fought for workers’ rights, led the passage of marriage equality and championed climate legislation. As a public servant, in both the legislature and as Lt. Governor, David has worked with grassroots organizations and brought every day Vermonters’ voices to Montpelier. I am proud to endorse David and know he will continue to ensure Vermonters have an economy that works for all of us, by growing good-paying Vermont jobs, fighting climate change and leading a progressive recovery out of this pandemic. I hope you will join me in supporting David to be our next Governor.”
The Zuckerman for Vermont campaign also released the endorsement of the national organization, the Working Families Party. The Working Families Party released the following quote from Maurice Mitchell, the National Director of the Working Families Party:
"This is what progressive leadership looks like. Lieutenant Governor Zuckerman has been a longtime leader in the fight for a Vermont that works for the many, not the few. His political courage and bold vision for the future of Vermont’s working families is unmatched in this race, and the WFP is proud to support him all the way to Election Day.”
In response to these endorsements, Lt. Governor David Zuckerman said, “I am proud to have the support of Representative Welch, Attorney General TJ Donovan, and Treasurer Beth Pearce and the tens of thousands of Vermonters who voted for me last week. As we look forward to the November election, I am gratified to know that so many prominent elected officials and grassroots Vermonters support my vision for Vermont’s future: raising the minimum wage, passing a climate jobs plan, and supporting our schools from pre-k to our college system, and especially our state colleges.”
Lt. Governor David Zuckerman has also been endorsed by: VPIRG Votes, Our Revolution, Rights & Democracy, People for the American Way, the Vermont Sierra Club, Moms Demand Action, People’s Action, the Vermont AFL CIO, CWA Local 1400, AFSCME Council 93, the Champlain Valley DSA, the four Bernie 2020 co-chairs, Former U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich, Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield, Bill McKibben, and over 150 Vermont legislators, former legislators, farmers, and teachers.
