PRESS RELEASE: March 12, 2020
Zuckerman Endorsed by Democratic Party Leaders
BURLINGTON: Today Lt. Governor Zuckerman’s campaign for Governor announced the backing of three former Vermont Democratic Party Chairs, pointing to his ability to work and connect with people across the state. Zuckerman, who has been a publicly elected official since 1997, has worked with leading legislators and officials to pass some of Vermont’s hallmark legislation of the last twenty years, including death with dignity, marriage equality, raising the minimum wage and labeling GMO’s.
Faisal Gill, the Vermont Democratic Party’s most recent former State Chair, spoke specifically to David’s ability to connect with individuals across the state.
"As Chair of the Democratic Party, I attended many events with David and saw him connect with Vermonters around the state. Whether we were in the Northeast Kingdom, southern region or Chittenden County, David's experience as a farmer, small business owner, and elected official allowed him to make and build connections with a wide variety of people. I wholeheartedly support David to be Vermont's next Governor." - Faisal Gill, former VDP State Chair
Scudder Parker, former Vermont Democratic Party State Chair, candidate for Governor, and the first Democratic State Senator elected from the Northeast Kingdom, outlined David’s ability to quickly and effectively address many of the issues most important to Vermonters.
“David Zuckerman is a person of real integrity and vision. We are fortunate to have him as a candidate to be Vermont’s next Governor. He is focused on making a better future for all Vermonters. He is ready to address the needs of working families, and of young families hoping to thrive in Vermont. He understands the urgency of addressing Climate Change and building a new sustainable economy.
Phil Scott is also a person of real integrity, but his perception of what is needed and of what is possible is limited. This is a time when we must have imagination, creativity and energy from our Governor for taking on the profound challenges Vermont and our nation face. Vermont has been an innovator and leader in housing, human rights, energy policy, economic justice, and environmental quality. But we are not moving forward, and we need to….and with David, we can.” - Scudder Parker, former State Senator, Candidate for Governor, and VDP State Chair
Cindy Metcalf, former Vermont Democratic Party State Chair and Chief of Staff for Lt. Governor Racine, pointed to David’s experience and enthusiasm bringing diverse voices to Montpelier.
“As a former State Party Chair, focused primarily on organizing Democrats statewide, I value David’s 20 years working with Vermonters from around the state to ensure their voices are included in the discourse in Montpelier. I am excited as he travels all 14 counties engaging Vermonters in our democracy. I look forward to him becoming Vermont's next Governor.” - Cindy Metcalf, former VDP State Chair
Campaign Manager Megan Polyte said, “These endorsements point to David’s strength across the state - from the rural Northeast Kingdom, and southern Vermont to Montpelier. The connections that David has made throughout Vermont helped him beat his opponent by double digits in 2018 even after being outspent 3:1 and will be a driving factor in both the primary and general election campaigns in 2020.”
In response to these endorsements, David said, “I am grateful for the support of these Vermont Democratic Party Chairs and the overwhelming support from Vermonters across the state. Our campaign is about bringing people together to uplift each other, recognize the potential of Vermont and Vermonters, and really do something about the challenges that we face.”
The Zuckerman for VT campaign also announced that it will be releasing a full list of legislative endorsements following the legislative session to ensure that no conflicts of interest emerge for the legislators as David presides over the Senate.
