Another milestone in LGTBQ representation and advocacy in the 2020 election cycle, leading up to a unique “Don’t Blow It - Vote” livestream event on Oct 24th

The one and only Amber LeMay, Host of Amber Live! interviewed Lt Gov David Zuckerman, the Democratic candidate for governor in Vermont on the show’s October 18th episode.

“Where else but Vermont would the candidate for governor of a major political party sit down for an interview with a drag queen?” said Amber LeMay.  A link to the interview is here.

The interview marks an important step in the evolution of drag performers in promoting participation in democracy and the voting process during the 2020 election.

Among other topics, they discussed what motivates him as a public servant and politician, his willingness to cut his trademark ponytail to support youth-serving organizations throughout Vermont, and how he started his trademark of bringing carrots instead of candy to campaign events.  

As a founder of the League of Drag Queen Voters and an Ambassador for Drag Out the Vote., Amber has sought out a number of LGBTQ candidates from around the country to appear on the show, including Chris Caputo from Florida and Jessica Benham from Pennsylvania (also interviewed on the October 18th episode), local Vermont candidates Taylor Small and David Glidden, Drag out the Vote co-founder Jackie Huba and Johnna Ferguson of the League of Women Voters of Vermont, all of whom were interviewed earlier in the fall. 

Amber has also teamed up with Higher Ground (www.highergroundmusic.com/) to produce Don't Blow It, Vote! A Night of Music, Comedy and Democracy, a free, non-partisan, virtual livestreamed event taking place on Saturday October 24th at 8 pm ET via Facebook, YouTube, Periscope, and Twitch.

Amber will host the livestream featuring musical acts, actors, comedians, and politicians who will be performing and/or speaking about the importance of voting. Actor Mike Houston (Orange is the New Black), musicians Josh Panda, Kat Wright, Dwight & Nicole, and TikTok superstar The Church Muva among many others are slated to appear.
