Ben and Jerry Endorse David
PRESS RELEASE: February 23, 2020
BURLINGTON: Today, Co-founders of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield endorsed Lt. Governor David Zuckerman in his 2020 gubernatorial bid. The campaign announced the endorsement to their supporters via email and on social media.
The Zuckerman campaign released the following statement from Ben and Jerry:
“Once upon a time, we started a small business. It required milk, so we met a lot of farmers and cows, and learned about the farmer work ethic here in Vermont.
David Zuckerman is a farmer. He understands agricultural and small business issues, the complex challenges of water quality, the importance of a livable wage, and that we must urgently address the climate crisis.
We have supported David over the years as he has worked for Vermont’s farmers, small businesses and families and fully support him to be Vermont's next Governor.
As a State Representative and later as a State Senator, David introduced the first GMO Labeling bill in the entire country. A bill that was passed and signed in 2016.
David was also the lead sponsor on Vermont’s Marriage Equality law, long before marriage equality became the majority view.
David Zuckerman is the kind of leader who is not afraid to stick his neck out on tough issues, long before the political establishment comes around. David campaigns on our shared values and through innovation and big ideas will lead our state to a better future.”

Their dedication to Vermont and their commitment to the issues that are essential to improving the lives of working people throughout our state are helping us build for a better future. Ben and Jerry have been consistent allies in our fight for a livable wage, to address the climate crisis and in supporting family farms and small businesses throughout Vermont. Together, we are going to make a real difference for Vermont families who continue to struggle to make ends meet.”
