Zuckerman For VT Holds First-of-its-Kind Drive-In Campaign Rally

WILLISTON: The Zuckerman for VT Campaign held the first-of-its-kind in-person, drive-in campaign rally at Isham Family Farm in Williston Vermont on Sunday afternoon.

Over ninety cars were parked neatly in rows evenly spaced 10 yards apart across the entire Isham Family Farm’s northern field turned drive-in event space. Attendees brought picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and sat in their car listening to the music and speeches. Some decorated their cars with Zuckerman campaign signs, supportive hand-made posters, and pride flags, others brought hula hoops and their family dog. All enjoyed music from Zach Nugent and ate locally catered food from Cafe MamaJuana with Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for dessert. The Zuckerman for VT campaign took significant precaution to ensure that attendees, volunteers and speakers were kept safe including giving each attendee a specially designed Zuckerman for Governor mask.

Lieutenant Governor David Zuckerman spoke about his vision for Vermont, focusing on proactive plans to address the economic challenges faced by Vermonters both due to the current pandemic and the underlying issues that have been amplified by it, the climate crisis, and racial justice issues.

“Together, we can fight the climate crisis. Together, we can build an economy that works for everyone. Together, we can make sure every child has the best environment to grow in, to mature in and to thrive in. Together, we can come out of this pandemic stronger than ever. Together, we can take back the Governorship! I’m David Zuckerman and it will be my honor to be your next Governor of the great state of Vermont!” - Lt. Governor David Zuckerman

The Lieutenant Governor drew a stark contrast between himself and Governor Scott arguing that, “So many of the policies that the governor has scoffed at, delayed, or vetoed would have put Vermonters in a better place today.” He pointed to the Governor’s attempts to slash public education system budgets, vetoing holding chemical companies accountable, vetoing minimum wage increases and paid family leave, as well as the Governor’s position on universal healthcare.

The event was opened by local comedian and Black Lives Matter Activist, Ash Diggs. Ash used his comedy to convey key logistics to keep folks in their allocated parking spaces and share his story. Welcomes were given by Abenaki Chief Don Stevens and farmer Mike Isham. Senator Sanders’ daughter and former Vermont House Representative Carina Driscoll introduced the Lieutenant Governor. The event closed with a rallying cry from Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the co-founders of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.

The Zuckerman for Vermont campaign announced that with the overwhelming success of this event, they expect to host future drive-in campaign events around Vermont.
